UAW Goes on Strike: A Haiku in a Trench Coat, Maybe More

They’re out there! F*ck yeah!

Right in the intersection!

UAW

No one believed us when we said we’d just write a Haiku in our coverage of the UAW 4121 strikes, but here we are. In case you haven’t heard about anything, we’ll cover it briefly. UAW 4121, the union representing academic student workers, is striking for living wages, better treatment, and more. Despite Cauce playing the victim card, the university brought this on itself by failing to provide living wages and benefits to their employees.

This is not surprising, as the University loves to walk all over labor and exploit its workers. Last fall, The Nightly received an anonymous tip about a labor law violation within the College of Mechanical Engineering. According to documentation sent to The Nightly, payroll within the department asked student employees not to discuss their wages.

The (she, her) in purple cursive after violating labor laws is diabolical.

Though it is reported that payroll eventually sent a follow up email retracting their previous statement, the university’s widespread disregard for labor is clear. And it’s not just bad for academic workers. All workers across campus from maintenance to food workers, student and non-student workers, are forced to do the impossible everyday to keep the campus running.

In the coming days, join in solidarity with your TA’s, all UAW workers, and all workers on campus. As for our dreams of only writing a haiku, and calling it an article. Maybe next time.
